MERCED COUNTY, CA (March 12, 2019) – A woman sustained injuries while authorities arrested a male resident of Merced County on March 10.
Authorities revealed that they arrested Thomas Climer, 48, from Dos Palos. He was detained on suspicion of felony driving under the influence causing injuries and felony hit-and-run causing injuries.
According to California Highway Patrol Officer Cary Martin, officers came to the scene at around 9:52 a.m. on Highway 33 and West Carmellia Avenue at approximately 9:52 a.m.
Martin added that a westbound 2017 silver GMC Acadia driver on West Carmellia Avenue didn’t stop at a stop sign. Afterward, he crashed with a southbound silver 2005 Chrysler minivan traveling on Highway 33. Martin also noted that Alma Guzman-Puerta of Paicines, Chrysler’s driver, traveled at around 50 mph at the time of the crash.
Authorities revealed that the GMC driver escaped the area. Meanwhile, medical responders transported Guzman-Puerta to Los Banos Memorial Hospital with minor to moderate injuries.
After escaping in the traffic incident, Climer got into another collision when his vehicle struck a power pole and barbed wire fence in the area of West Carmellia Avenue and Palm Avenue.
The driver then escaped the wreckage on foot. After conducting an investigation, the authorities found out that the GMC driver was Climer.
The authorities later found Climer hiding in bushes near the area of the second crash. In addition, they are suspecting Climer of being intoxicated. As a result, the police booked Climer into the Merced County Jail.
