1 Person Injured in Merced Auto Accident on East Gerard Avenue and Buckner Road

 
MERCED, CA (October 5, 2021) – Sunday night, authorities arrested Alizha Cooksey after a DUI hit-and-run crash on East Gerard Avenue.
 
The incident happened at around 11:53 p.m. on East Gerard Avenue and Buckner Road.
 
Lt. Emily Foster said that officers detained 18-year-old Alizha Cooksey. They booked him into Merced County Jail on suspicion of felony hit-and-run resulting in injury and driving under the influence.
 
An investigation revealed that a blue Chrysler 300 drove along East Gerard. Then, the car struck a parked car and electrical box near the intersection with Buckner.
 
Afterward, the driver and three passengers escaped on foot, leaving the vehicle behind. However, officers found the passengers nearby. A minor passenger sustained a minor head injury and was transported to Mercy Medical Center for treatment.
 
Meanwhile, the officers found Alizha Cooksey at his home in the 400 block of East San Pedro Street a few hours later. Foster confirmed that Cooksey showed signs of intoxication during the arrest.
