Elizabeth Karns Arrested after Fatal Traffic Collision near Country Road 102

WOODLAND, CA (September 27, 2018) – A man was killed Thursday afternoon following a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 5. The deceased victim was later identified as 57-year-old Alfred Perales Castellanos, a resident of Lakeport.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident took place at about 3:49 PM near Country Road 102. Three vehicles – a 2016 Ford Edge, a 2012 Ford Fiesta, and a 2016 Cadillac – were stopped in the far-left lane on the southbound I-5.

For unknown reasons, a 2017 Dodge Ram, driven by 36-year-old Robert Snow of Olivehurst, failed to stop in time and slammed into the rear of the Ford Edge. The impact of the collision pushed it into the Ford Fiesta and the Cadillac.

Castellanos, the driver of the Ford Edge, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by responding officers. Meanwhile, the driver of the Ford Fiesta, identified as Richard Root of Carmichael, suffered moderate injuries. It is unknown whether or not Snow sustained injuries in the crash.

The driver of the Cadillac, identified as 58-year-old Elizabeth Karns of Lakehead, reportedly drove away from the site but was stopped by CHP and Sacramento Airport police. Karns, who suffered minor injuries, was later arrested for DUI and fleeing the scene of a collision.

An investigation is underway to confirm the cause of the fatal crash and to identify other possible contributing factors. No other information has been disclosed to the public at this time.

Our deepest thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved loved ones of Alfred Perales Castellanos. May he rest in peace.
