1 Dead in Crescent City Pedestrian Accident on Northcrest Drive
CRESCENT CITY, CA (December 6, 2024) – Wednesday, Alexandra Danielle Diehl was arrested in a brutal pedestrian crash on Northcrest Drive.
The incident happened at about 6:00 p.m. when a 2019 Nissan Rogue was traveling northbound on Northcrest Drive, south of East Madison Avenue in Del Norte County.
A man was crossing Northcrest Drive within a marked crosswalk, pushing or pulling a metal shopping cart, when he was struck by a Nissan Rogue under circumstances still under investigation. The impact threw the pedestrian into the #1 southbound lane, and the driver, identified as Diehl, fled the scene in the Nissan Rogue.
Shortly after, a Toyota 4-Runner traveling northbound hit the metal shopping cart. Meanwhile, a southbound white Kia in the #1 lane near East Madison Avenue approached and spotted the pedestrian lying on the road. The driver attempted to swerve but could not avoid hitting him.
The pedestrian was transported to Sutter Coast Hospital in critical condition but passed away shortly after 9:00 PM. His identity is being withheld until his next of kin is notified.
At about 8:35 PM, law enforcement received a tip about the location of the 2019 Nissan Rogue. An investigation confirmed Diehl as the driver, and she was arrested for felony hit-and-run (20001(a) V.C.) and vehicular manslaughter (192(c) P.C.).
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact the Crescent City CHP office at (707) 218-2000.
The Crescent City Fire Department and the Del Norte County Sheriff’s Department assisted with traffic control. The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate, and both directions of Northcrest Drive were closed during the on-site investigation.
