31-year-old Martin Medina Arrested in I-10 Fatal Crash
El Paso, TX (December 21, 2023) – 31-year-old Alexander Ortiz, from Chaparral, was killed in an Interstate 10 DUI crash Sunday morning.
Officers said the roadway was initially closed that day due to a deadly collision. As a result, a big rig was parked on the right emergency lane.
Investigators said that at around 3 a.m., on December 17, Martin Medina, a 31-year-old Chaparral man was traveling in a Nissan Versa. For unknown reasons, Medina swerved to the right and collided with the left rear corner of a semi.
The impact of the collision was so severe that the right side and the roof of the Nissan Versa detached.
Sadly, Medina’s passenger, Alexander Ortiz, was not wearing a seatbelt during that time and was fatally ejected from the vehicle.
Officers said Medina stayed inside the vehicle after the collision. He was not wearing a seatbelt when the collision happened.
Responding officers determined Medina was intoxicated. They charged him with intoxication manslaughter with a $100,000 bond and a $10,000 PR bond.
