18-Year-Old Alex Nieves Arrested after Fountain Valley Car Accident
FOUNTAIN VALLEY, CA (April 5, 2019) – Late Friday night, six people were injured in DUI car accident on Harbor Boulevard in Fountain Valley. According to officers, the accident happened just before midnight near Edinger Avenue.
As per reports, 18-year-old Alex Nieves from Santa Ana was driving a white Chevrolet SUV. He was traveling south on Harbor Boulevard when he lost control and eventually struck a pole. No other cars were involved in the collision.
The Garden Grove and Fountain Valley Fire Departments arrived to the scene shortly after the crash. Six occupants in the SUV were transported to a nearby hospital. All had a variety of injuries, with two of the victims in critical condition. Those two were listed in stable condition at the hospital.
Authorities arrested Nieves in suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol and was booked into Orange County Jail. A nitrous oxide tank was found in the vehicle and may have been a factor in the crash.
The boulevard was closed off for a brief time for cleanup and preliminary investigation. No further details have been released regarding the circumstances leading up to the incident at this time.
