1 Dead in Mesa Motorcycle Accident near Dobson Road and Southern Avenue

MESA, AZ (June 17, 2024) – Friday night, Alex Calderon died in a devastating motorcycle crash near Dobson Road.

The incident happened just after 9:45 p.m. on Dobson Road and Southern Avenue.

When the authorities arrived, they determined that a car and a motorcycle had been involved in a crash.

The 23-year-old motorcycle rider, Calderon, was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. However, Calderon later succumbed to injuries at the hospital.

Reports said that two individuals were involved in the collision when their car was struck by a motorcycle on Southern Avenue. Both occupants of the car were transported to the hospital with minor injuries and have since been released.

Meanwhile, preliminary police investigations suggest that Calderon, who was riding the motorcycle, was traveling west at a high rate of speed when he crashed with the car. Meanwhile, the car was waiting at a traffic light and had just begun making a left turn when the crash occurred.

As per standard procedure, the driver of the car, a Mazda, was tested for impairment and processed for DUI, though police have not confirmed if impairment played a role in the incident. 

At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.
