Alex Bingham of Odessa Hurt in Suspected DWI Collision on Everglade Avenue [Odessa, TX]

Odessa, TX (October 30, 2024) Early Sunday morning, Alex Bingham was hurt after a horrific DWI collision on Everglade Avenue.

According to the Odessa Police Department (OPD), the hit-and-run crash happened at about 1:35 a.m. on the 3700 block of Everglade Avenue.

Reports say that 18-year-old Jose Contreras faces charges of intoxication assault and collision involving serious bodily injury after allegedly hitting Bingham with his vehicle

Officials say that Contreras was driving a black Dodge Challenger that struck Bingham and fled the scene afterward.

Officers located Bingham on the ground with severe injuries consistent with being hit by a car.

Witnesses indicated Bingham had stepped outside to investigate a possible accident involving an animal when he was struck.

Following skid marks left at the scene, officers tracked down the damaged Dodge Challenger, which was missing a wheel, and found evidence linking it to Contreras, including his identification.

After several calls to dispatch, police located Contreras at a nearby convenience store where he displayed clear signs of intoxication, admitting he had been drinking before the accident. Contreras was arrested on two third-degree felony charges and later released on $30,000 bond.
