Fairfield Man Fatally Struck by Several Hit-and-Run Drivers on 880 Freeway at Fremont Boulevard

FREMONT, CA (January 4, 2019) – A man was killed in a pedestrian hit-and-run crash early Friday morning on 880 Freeway in Fremont, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The fatal crash happened around 3:36 a.m. on the northbound direction of 880 Freeway, just South of Fremont Boulevard near the Tesla factory.

CHP officials said that the man had been struck by multiple vehicles, sending him down in lanes of traffic. First responders tried but were not able to locate any vehicles that may have been associated with the crash.

The victim suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. He was later identified by the Alameda County Coroner’s Office as Alejandro Diaz, 28 of Fairfield.

A SigAlert was issued in the area, closing all northbound lanes of the freeway and motorists were advised to use alternate routes. All lanes were re-opened roughly around 6:46 a.m.

CHP officials are still investigating the incident and asking for the public’s help in identifying any vehicle that may have been involved. Anyone with pertinent information should call the CHP’s Hayward Area Office at 510-489-1500
