Driver Dies after Slamming Back of Big Rig on 5 Freeway at Elk Grove Boulevard
ELK GROVE, CA (October 3, 2019) – A man was killed following a rear-end crash Thursday morning in Elk Grove.
The crash happened around 7:55 a.m. on northbound 5 Freeway, just south of Elk Grove Boulevard.
According an initial report, a Toyota Prius slammed into the back of a big rig that had stopped on the shoulder of the freeway.
Officers arrived and found the Prius lodged underneath the trailer of the big rig. Firefighters pronounced the driver of the Prius dead at the scene.
Authorities identified the victim as 27-year-old Alberto Gerbasio Ruiz Cortes.
One northbound lane was closed near the crash scene but has since reopened.
It is unknown if speed, drugs and/or alcohol were contributing factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
