Students Injured in Suspected DUI Crash near Rucker Avenue
GILROY, CA (May 3, 2018) – On Thursday afternoon, a 25-year-old San Martin man was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, after a collision with a school bus on Monterey Road.
According to witnesses, Alberto Ceadano was driving a 2001 Ford Expedition northbound on Monterey, at about 90 mph, around 3:20 PM. Ceadano lost control of the SUV, crossed into oncoming traffic lanes, and crashed into a parked school bus that was preparing to offload students near Rucker Avenue.
The impact of the collision caused Ceadano’s vehicle to overturn and come to a rest on the west shoulder, trapping him and a Morgan Hill woman in the passenger’s seat. People at the scene came attempted to free the people from the heavily damaged SUV. Ceadano was taken to the San Jose Regional Medical Center with injuries ranging from minor to moderate, while the passenger sustained minor injuries, but declined hospitalization.
There were a total of 47 passengers on board the school bus when the crash occurred. Two of them, minors aged between 13 to 16 years old, sustained minor injuries. One of them received minor injuries, such as scrapes, and refused hospitalization. The other student complained of chest and shoulder pain and was taken to the Valley Medical Center accompanied by a parent.
Ceadano was later arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
