Injuries Reported in Houston Auto Accident on Beechnut Street and Highway 6
HOUSTON, TX (August 4, 2023) – Early Thursday morning, an innocent driver suffered injuries in an alarming police chase crash on Beechnut Street and Highway 6.
The incident occurred just before 1:00 a.m. when the officers tried to pull over the driver of an Infinity after noticing that the license plates didn’t match the vehicle.
Then, the driver pulled over at first but then escaped the scene.
Thus, officers began chasing the vehicle. However, the patrol unit collided with a civilian vehicle at the intersection of Beechnut Street and Highway 6.
After the crash, the driver was listed in critical condition but is expected to be OK.
Meanwhile, responders took one of the two HPD officers involved in the crash to the hospital.
“The police car was on fire. What happened was, miraculously, the police got out of the car and went over to try and help the other car,” witness Seth Arrizola revealed.
Then, reports said that the driver being chased escaped.
Moreover, the union clarified that the two officers intended to stop the suspect, not injure a civilian.
“We in law enforcement never want to see anyone get hurt,” HPOU President Doug Griffith revealed.
Chief Finner stated on Thursday afternoon that the officers were relieved of duty.
Griffith highlighted a transformative shift in HPD’s approach a decade ago when they abandoned their no-chase policy. This decision came about as it became evident that suspects were exploiting the situation, realizing that they could evade capture simply by fleeing. By removing this policy, HPD aimed to enhance public safety and ensure that those who break the law are held accountable for their actions.
HPD has a detailed pursuit policy, and an internal investigation will determine if it was violated.

In fact, the Texas Department of Transportation reports a road accident every 57 seconds. Also, more crashes on Texas roadways happen on Sundays than on any other day of the week.
The aftershock of an accident is not something to be dealt with alone. The burden is meant to be shared; preferably, with a community that knows how to handle the effects.
