Injuries Reported in Houston Pedestrian Accident on I-69 Eastex Freeway near Laura Koppe Road
HOUSTON, TX (October 8, 2024) – Sunday night, a woman suffered injuries in an alarming pedestrian crash on I-69 Eastex Freeway near Laura Koppe Road.
The incident occurred at 9:00 p.m. on I-69 Eastex Freeway near Laura Koppe Road.
According to Houston police, the incident began when a young woman’s car broke down in a southbound lane of I-69. She turned on her hazard lights and exited her car to call for a tow truck. While she was outside the vehicle, another car struck her, causing her to fall over the retaining wall, a drop of approximately 25 to 30 feet. She was rushed to the hospital and is in critical condition.
As officers blocked the road to investigate the crash, the situation worsened when a driver reportedly collided with an HPD cruiser. The driver, who appeared intoxicated, had two children, ages 3 and 6, in the car. Fortunately, the children were unharmed, and the woman sustained minor injuries. She now faces charges for driving while intoxicated with children in the vehicle, along with other charges related to the crash.
The HPD officer involved was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital and, despite being injured, is expected to recover. Authorities emphasize the importance of not leaving your vehicle on the freeway.
