1 Person Hospitalized in Costa Mesa Multi-Vehicle Accident on 55 Freeway near 405 Freeway

COSTA MESA, CA (August 20, 2024) – Monday morning, an alarming multi-vehicle crash on 55 Freeway near 405 Freeway injured one person.

The incident happened at around 2:30 a.m. on the northbound Costa Mesa (55) Freeway, south of the San Diego (405) Freeway.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a black sedan that was traveling at a high rate of speed struck a tow truck driver who was out of the vehicle following an earlier accident.

Moreover, responders rushed the tow truck driver who lost his left leg in the crash, to a hospital for treatment.

Furthermore, the crash closed multiple lanes of the freeway but has long since reopened.

At this time, the events leading to the crash remained unclear. When additional information becomes available, the public will be notified.

Due to limited information, the CHP continued to investigate the crash.
