Harold Sawyer Jr Injured in Interstate 80 Fatal Crash
Vacaville, CA (August 12, 2021) – On Thursday, a 33-year-old Alameda woman dies, while 71-year-old Harold Sawyer Jr of Albany suffered injuries in a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 80.
The fatal crash took place minutes before 5 a.m. on the eastbound lanes of the freeway, at Highway 505.
Officers said the Alameda woman’s Toyota Camry drove into the freeway median.
Then, the woman ‘s Toyota Camry drove into the freeway median, it returned to the roadway and struck a Hyundai Ioniq driven by Sawyer.
Subsequently, a Honda Civic driven by 42-year-old Angel Zavala-Alvarez of Antioch; a Volkswagen driven by 33-year-old Nicholas Hanson of Rohnert Park; and a GMC Sierra driven by 34-year-old Humberto Hernandez of San Pablo, all crashed into the Toyota.
The impact of the crash threw the Toyota from her vehicle. Officers pronounced her dead at the scene.
Officers withheld her name pending notification of next of kin.
Moreover, Sawyer and Hanson both sustained minor injuries. Responder took them to Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Vacaville.
On the other hand, Zavala-Alvarez and Hernandez were not injured in the accident.
Meanwhile, the authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash.
