1 Dead in Novato Auto Accident on Highway 101

 
NOVATO, CA (July 29, 2021) – Wednesday morning, Agustin Rojas-Rodriguez died in a police chase crash on Highway 101.
 
The authorities identified the deceased passenger as 18-year-old Santa Rosa resident Agustin Rojas-Rodriguez.
 
Meanwhile, three other suspects escaped from officers and remain at large.
 
According to reports, the incident started at about 1:45 a.m. Then, officers at the northbound U.S Highway 101 truck scales in Terra Linda saw a speeding Toyota Avalon pass by them. Thus, the officers began a chase and caught up to the vehicle. Afterward, they initiated an enforcement stop at the Lucas Valley Road exit and the driver stopped at the offramp.
 
However, two passengers came out of the car and fled on foot. As the officers chased the two, they saw the Toyota fled from the scene. Thus, the officers went back to their patrol vehicle and started following the vehicle.
 
However, the officers failed to follow the vehicle. Then, they noticed a plume of dirt and dust at the end of the Bel Marin Keys offramp. The officers thought that it might be the vehicle.
 
Thus, the officers came back to the offramp and located the Toyota with major crash damage after crashing into a stoplight. Meanwhile, the driver has led the area on foot, heading south toward a Safeway shopping center.
 
Meanwhile, a Marin County Sheriff deputy found an unresponsive passenger in the left rear seat with major injuries. After initiating life-saving measures, the authorities declared the passenger dead at the scene.
 
Sheriff’s deputies and Novato police officers helped the CHP officers in looking for the driver. A CHP helicopter also responded for a thorough search. However, the driver and the two passengers who fled remained at large.
 
At this time, the authorities said that the driver is not armed and not considered a danger to the public.
 
Also, the incident shut down the Bel Marin Keys intersection until about 10:30 a.m. Moreover, the investigators asked anyone who witnessed the crash to contact Officer Kevin Giannone at (415)924-1100.
