Driver Dies in Evening Head-On Crash on 405 Freeway in Hawthorne
HAWTHORNE, CA (January 7, 2020) – A man was killed in a head-on crash Tuesday evening in Hawthorne, authorities said.
The crash happened around 9:40 p.m. on northbound 405 Freeway near Rosecrans Avenue.
According to the CHP, a 2009 Honda was traveling at an unknown speed when it lost control, spun out and stopped facing the wrong way in the carpool lane. A 2007 Infiniti traveling north in the carpool lane at approximately 55 mph then crashed head-on into the Honda.
As a result, the driver of the Honda died at the scene. He was identified as Adam Herrera, 35, of Los Angeles.
Two people in the Infiniti complained of pain.
Authorities did not rule out alcohol and drugs as factors and no arrests were reported. They asked witnesses to call the West Los Angeles CHP Office at 310-642-3939.
