Propane Truck and Motor-Home Overturn near Crown Valley Road
ACTON, CA (April 9, 2019) – Five people were injured following a rollover accident Tuesday morning on 14 Freeway in Acton.
The crash happened around 9:15 a.m. along the southbound lanes of the freeway. Dispatchers arrived at Crown Valley Road soon after.
According to the CHP, a tanker truck carrying about 2,600 gallons of propane and a motorhome collided, causing the two vehicles to overturn. The propane truck leaked hazardous liquid onto the freeway, while the motorhome sustained extensive damage.
Three people in the RV, including a woman and her child, sustained critical injuries.
The driver of the motorhome was also critically injured, while the truck driver suffered moderate injuries.
All five patients were taken to a hospital, at least two of them were airlifted from the scene to trauma centers.
The southbound 14 Freeway was closed, and a hazardous-materials team was sent to deal with the leaking propane.
Fire crews established a 500-foot perimeter around the scene, prompting the evacuation of some businesses in the area, although it was unclear how many people were affected.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
