1 Person Dead in Pomona Multi-Vehicle Accident on 10 Freeway near Fairplex Drive

POMONA, CA (October 5, 2023) – Wednesday morning, Abrena Lorene Vasquez died in a devastating multi-vehicle crash on 10 Freeway near Fairplex Drive.

The incident happened at around 12:30 a.m. on the westbound 10 Freeway, east of Fairplex Drive.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a Kia Forte collided with a semi-truck for still unknown reasons. Then, the force of the crash pushed the Kia to roll over onto its roof. Also, a Toyota Camry struck the Kia that came into rest blocking a lane.

Moreover, responders pronounced the 30-year-old Kia driver dead at the scene. Then, paramedics transported her 6-year-old son was taken to the Children’s Hospital of Orange County with major injuries, while her 7-year-old daughter was transported to Pomona Valley Hospital with minor injuries. Also, the Camry’s driver, a 60-year-old La Puente man, sustained minor injuries but refused treatment at the scene.

Furthermore, officers do not believe that drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.

At this time, the circumstances involved in the crash remained unclear. When additional information becomes available, the public will be notified.

Due to limited information, the CHP continued to investigate the crash.
