Five People Injured in Possible DUI Multiple-Car Crash On San Diego Freeway near Wilshire Boulevard
LOS ANGELES, CA (January 15, 2018) – A wrong-way driver on the San Diego Freeway in Westwood caused a multiple-vehicle accident, around 12:38 AM on Monday.
Abdul Aziz M. Alnuaim was driving a 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe southbound in the carpool lane of the northbound 405 freeway near Wilshire Blvd, when he collided head-on with a 2000 Ford Explorer that was going northbound in the same lane. The Chevy then crashed into a Honda Civic in the first lane of the freeway.
All five people involved in the accident had minor to serious injuries, according to CHP: the driver and two passengers of the Ford suffered minor injuries; the 29-year-old woman driving the Honda suffered two broken legs and was hospitalized in serious condition; Alnumain sustained moderate injuries.
The 28-year-old man from Beverly Hills, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.
Debris from the Honda Civic damaged a 2015 Mercedes-Benz SLK250 that was driving northbound. The driver was not injured.
Northbound lanes of the freeway were closed for about three hours while paramedics from the Los Angeles Fire Department rescued individuals, officials cleared the scene, and authorities investigated.
