52-Year-Old El Sobrante Man Identified as Bicyclist Killed near Appian Way
EL SOBRANTE, CA (February 2, 2019) – A man has died four days after a bicycle accident near Appian Way. The victim was later identified as 52-year-old Aaron DeMuynzk, a resident of El Sobrante.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened at about 1:15 AM. A 1999 silver Toyota was traveling on San Pablo Dam Road when it hit the bicyclist.
DeMuynzk suffered critical injuries and was transported to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek for treatment. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on February 6. It is unknown whether or not the Toyota driver remained at the scene to cooperate with investigators.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the fatal crash and to identify possible contributing factors. Additional information will be released once it becomes available.
