Nine Hospitalized after Collision on 15 Freeway
HESPERIA, CA (December 25, 2018) – Nine people were injured in a large car crash on the 15 Freeway on Tuesday morning. The identities of the victims have not yet been released to the public.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 6:30 AM near Cajon Pass, just south of Oak Hill Road. A chain-reaction collision involving about 40 cars, trucks, and big rigs took place, amid icy and snowy road.
First responders arrived at the scene of the accident and transported nine people to three different nearby hospitals, for treatment and evaluation. The status of the occupant’s current medical condition is unclear at this time.
Authorities stated that the entire northbound side off the freeway was shut down for hours, while clearing operations and preliminary investigation took place in the area. The freeway reopened few hours later at around 10:30 AM.
There has been no further information released regarding the circumstance leading up to the incident at this time, as the investigation continues. It is unknown if alcohol and drugs were contributing factors in the accident.
