55-Year-Old Indio Woman Arrested in Fatal DUI Crash in Valley Center
VALLEY CENTER, CA (August 3, 2019) – An 84-year-old Escondido woman died following a DUI crash Saturday afternoon in Valley Center.
The crash happened just before 4:00 p.m. at the intersection of Valley Center Road and Vesper Road.
According to police, a Toyota Camry tried to pass another vehicle on Valley Center Road. While attempting to pass, it slammed head-on into a Toyota Corolla that was heading westbound between Cole Grade Road and Vesper Road.
Paramedics rushed the elderly woman, who was sitting in the backseat of the Corolla, to a nearby hospital but died before arrival.
The driver of the Corolla, a 79-year-old Escondido man, and another passenger, a 67-year-old woman, were transported to Palomar Medical Center with major injuries.
The driver of the Camry, a 55-year-old woman from Indio, was also hospitalized with moderate injuries. She was later arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and expected to be booked into Vista Detention Facility.
A dog inside the Camry was taken to County of San Diego Department of Animal Services.
Valley Center Road closed to traffic until around 5:30 p.m.
