Elderly Woman Dies, Ruben Martinez Injured in Newman Truck Accident on Hills Ferry Road
NEWMAN, CA (February 11, 2020) – An 80-year-old woman was killed following a collision with a semi-truck Tuesday afternoon, in Newman.
The crash happened around 1:30 p.m. on Hills Ferry Road, just west of River Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the female was driving a westbound Toyota on Hills Ferry when her car partially veered into the eastbound lane and struck an oncoming semi-truck.
The impact consequently caused the semi-truck to lose control and slam into an electric pole.
Arriving units pronounced the woman dead at the scene. However, her identity was not immediately available.
The big rig driver, identified as 51-year-old Ruben Martinez of Modesto, suffered moderate injuries. Paramedics took him to Memorial Medical Center for treatment.
Authorities did not suspect alcohol or drugs as factors in the crash.
Further investigation is currently underway.
