9-Year-Old Girl and Mother Injured in Deadly Pedestrian Crash on Cooper Road in Oxnard
OXNARD, CA (September 30, 2019) – An 8-year-old boy was killed, and another child and a woman were injured after they were struck by a van Monday morning in Oxnard.
The crash happened around 7:40 a.m., at the intersection of Cooper Road and Anita Avenue.
According to Oxnard police, a woman was walking her daughter and a neighbor boy to nearby Cesar E. Chavez Elementary School when they were struck by a silver van in a crosswalk, just outside Ramona Elementary School, which is a few blocks from Cesar E. Chavez.
Bystanders who witnessed the crash rushed over to render aid, but the young boy was already unresponsive.
Paramedics pronounced the boy dead at the scene. He has not yet been identified.
A 9-year-old girl and her mother were rushed to Ventura County Medical Center with serious injuries, according to police.
The boy was their neighbor’s son.
The driver, a 17-year-old girl, was dropping her sister’s children off at Ramona when the crash took place, according to police. She remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.
Authorities said the teen may have been momentarily blinded by the rising sun.
