Elderly Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Vehicle near Encinitas Boulevard
ENCINITAS, CA (October 5, 2018) – A woman was killed Friday evening following a pedestrian crash on Balour Drive. The identity and place of residence of the 76-year-old victim are being withheld, pending notification of next of kin.
According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, the incident took place at about 7:00 PM in the 500 block of Balour Drive. The pedestrian was crossing near Encinitas Boulevard when she was struck by a northbound Toyota Prius.
The impact of the collision critically injured the woman, who was transported to a hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead by medical staff. Meanwhile, the driver of the Toyota remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
Alcohol and drugs were ruled out as possible contributing factors in the fatal crash, which remains under investigation. No further details have been provided to the public at this time.
