1 Dead in Novato Train Accident on Grant Avenue
NOVATO, CA (December 27, 2019) – A 71-year-old pedestrian died in a SMART train accident on Grant Avenue and Railroad Avenue on December 19.
The accident occurred at 7:49 p.m. at a railroad crossing on Grant Avenue and Railroad Avenue.
The man died at the scene and his identity remains unreleased.
The police revealed that the train traveled north before Grant Avenue crossing when it struck the man standing on the tracks.
During the crash, the train gave warning signals and have properly functioning equipment. The conductor also used emergency braking and activated the train’s horn before the collision.
Authorities shut down the east and westbound lanes of Grant Avenue between Railroad and Reichert avenues for around two and a half hours during the investigation.
