Fatal Burlington Car Crash on 5 Freeway
BURLINGTON, WA (October 24, 2019) – A 69-year-old man died in a car crash on 5 Freeway southbound near milepost 232 on October 20.
The incident occurred at about 10:27 a.m. The WSP revealed that a 69-year old Sedro-Woolley man traveled north in the left lane of 5 Freeway in a red 2003 Ford Ranger pickup. As he turned left, he broke through the cable barrier and went into oncoming southbound traffic. A 2014 Toyota Tacoma driven by a 24-year old Anacortes man then hit the Sedro-Wooley man’s vehicle.
The collision sent the Ford to overturn and both vehicles landed on the right shoulder of the southbound lanes.
Responders pronounced the 69-year-old man dead at the scene. Authorities haven’t identified the identity of the deceased. Meanwhile, the Anacortes man didn’t suffer any injury in the collision. Authorities released the 24-year-old man to family members who came to the scene.
Authorities are still investigating the car crash on 5 Freeway. It’s still unknown whether the deceased suffered from a medical emergency or lost control of his vehicle before the collision.
Authorities didn’t issue any charges.
