EL CAJON, CA (August 12, 2020) – Late Monday night, a 69-year-old man sustained serious injuries in a DUI crash on El Cajon Boulevard.
 
According to El Cajon Police Sgt. Steve Paz, the alleged DUI crash happened at about 11:35 p.m. The incident took place on El Cajon Boulevard and West Washington Avenue.
 
The authorities revealed that a man drove a vehicle east on El Cajon Boulevard. As he entered West Washington Avenue, a pedestrian in a motorized wheelchair crossed El Cajon Boulevard despite a red pedestrian crossing signal. As a result, the car hit the pedestrian and the impact threw the man from his motorized wheelchair. Then, he landed near the center divider and unconscious.
 
Responders transported the victim to a hospital with a serious head injury.
 
Meanwhile, the vehicle driver remained at the scene and underwent evaluation. Afterward, the police arrested him on suspicion of driving under the influence of a controlled substance. His identity remains unreleased by the authorities.
