Man Fatally Hit by Car in Long Beach
LONG BEACH, CA (February 20, 2019) – A 63-year-old man was fatally hit by a car in Long Beach Monday night. The incident happened around 8:45 p.m. Monday while the man was crossing Pacific Avenue near West Burnett Street, according to the Long Beach police.
The investigators said the victim was walking eastward on a marked crosswalk when a southbound 2003 Mercedes Benz E320 hit him. It was confirmed that the 41-year-old driver stopped to help the pedestrian and called 911. Both the pedestrian and the motorist are from Long Beach.
Officers arrived at a passerby performing CPR on the victim. The Long Beach Fire Department subsequently responded and attended to the 63-year-old man. He was then taken to a hospital where he later died. The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of his family.
Alcohol and drugs were already ruled out as possible causes of the collision.
It was reported that the incident occurred near businesses, including an auto repair shop, restaurants, and a child care center.
