Unidentified driver, Christian Paiz, Jessica Garcia, Cristian Lopez-Cambron, Raquel Lopez-Valencia, and Yaneth Lopez Dead in Wrong-Way Crash in Woodland CA
YOLO, CA (January 7, 2018) – A fatal accident was reported on Sunday early morning around 12:30 AM at Interstate 5, just north of country road 17.
A wrong-way driver in a white 2014 Chevrolet was driving southbound on Interstate 5 North, when it crashed head-first into a silver Dodge. The Dodge was carrying 5 passengers, 3 women and 2 men: Christian Paiz and Jessica Garcia, newlyweds Cristian Lopez-Cambron and Raquel Lopez-Valencia, and recent high-school graduate Yaneth Lopez.
Officers received multiple calls from witnesses on the road, reporting the wrong-way driver, but were unable to react in time to avoid the fatal accident. Both vehicles were reported to be engulfed in flames.
The five passengers in the Dodge were headed home from Denny’s in Woodland, when involved in the fatal accident.
Authorities are unsure whether or not the accident was caused due to alcohol and drug abuse, or weather; it was reported that there was heavy fog that evening.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to support the victims’ families.
We send heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Christian Paiz, Jessica Garcia, Cristian Lopez-Cambron, Raquel Lopez-Valencia, and Yaneth Lopez.
Wrong-way accidents usually result in more catastrophic injuries and fatalities, because of the nature of the crashes. They usually occur late in the evening and on freeways, meaning the cars are driving at high speeds and in a less-visible environment.
