Injuries Reported in Harris County Auto Accident on Kingwood Drive near Eastex Freeway
HARRIS COUNTY, TX (January 1, 2024) – Sunday, six people suffered injuries in a startling high-speed pursuit crash on Kingwood Drive near Easter Freeway.
The incident concluded when the teenage driver crashed his vehicle on Kingwood Drive near the Eastex Freeway.
According to reports, the incident began when a Plum Grove police officer noticed a Chevrolet pickup truck without a tail light. As the officer attempted to pull the vehicle over, the driver accelerated west on FM 2090 through Splendora, then went north to East River, and eventually traveled back south on I-69, reaching speeds of 110 MPH.
The teenager drove through the feeder roads of I-69, passing through FM 2090, Creekwood, Roman Forest, and FM 1485 intersections, maintaining a high rate of speed. The Department of Safety and Montgomery County deputies joined the chase as the driver continued through FM 1314 onto Northpark, where he briefly headed eastbound before executing a U-turn.
Upon reaching I-69, the driver accelerated again, and as he approached the Kingwood area, his pickup truck collided with a Toyota Tundra. The collision caused the pickup to roll over, and the Tundra lost control, striking a Chevrolet Equinox and causing it to roll over.
Inside the Equinox were four occupants, including a 3-year-old girl, all of whom suffered minor injuries and were transported to Kingwood Hospital. Additionally, two individuals in the Tundra were injured and transported to Kingwood.
The driver of the pickup, along with a 16-year-old female passenger, were not wearing seatbelts during the crash and remained uninjured. During the investigation, authorities found two clips for a firearm and a holster inside the pickup. It is believed that the teenager threw a pistol out of the window at some point during the pursuit.
Furthermore, the crash investigation involves the DPS, Montgomery County, and the Houston Police Department. The teenager will be facing multiple charges in connection with the incident.
