4 People Hospitalized After Crash on Interstate 70 in Boone County

Boone County, MO (September 12, 2024) – On September 11, a six-car crash on Interstate 70 injured four people. 

The Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) reported that six cars were traveling eastbound on I-70 near the 120-mile marker outside Columbia.

In the passing lane, a 2001 Acura CL and a 2010 Honda CRV traveled side by side. Parallel to them in the right lane were a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado and a 2022 Chevrolet 4500, followed by a 2020 Toyota Highlander.

At around 9 a.m. on Wednesday, traffic had stopped due to an unrelated incident. However, a 2024 Hyundai Tucson failed to notice the stop and crashed into the back of the Honda CRV. 

This collision forced the Honda to hit the rear end of the Acura CL.

After hitting the Honda, the Tucson swerved into the right lane and struck the back of the Chevy 4500. 

The impact pushed the truck forward, causing it to collide with the rear end of the Chevy Silverado. Debris from these collisions then caused the Highlander to crash as well.

The Tucson finally came to a stop partially in the right lane, injuring its driver and passengers.

Driver Sai K. Reddy, 31, of Kansas City, Kan., along with passengers Rayala Vasavi, 22, of Overland Park, Kan., and Navyasree Chenchu, 25, of St. Louis, sustained minor to moderate injuries. However, Reshma C. Mantri, 22, of Kansas City, Mo., suffered serious injuries. 

All occupants of the Tucson were transported to University Hospital for treatment.

MSHP confirmed that everyone involved in the crash was wearing seatbelts at the time of the incident.
