Norman Shiflet Arrested in Pedestrian Accident on State Route 539
Lynden, WA (January 05, 2022) on Tuesday, a 59-year-old Lynden man was killed in a pedestrian accident on Guide Meridian.
The Washington State Patrol (WSP) says that the incident occurred at about 12:40 p.m. on State Route 539, south of Beard Road.
Authorities say that a 2002 Ford F150 pickup was headed south on the Guide towing a 2001 Chrysler Town and Country van via tow strap.
Suddenly, the strap breaks, forcing the vehicles to make a stop to fix the connector.
It was Chrysler’s driver who got out of his vehicle and tried to replace the strap.
Then the vehicles started moving again, unfortunately, the empty Chrysler struck the man outside of the vehicle.
56-year-old Norman J Shiflet was the Ford Driver.
Authorities arrested Shiflet and booked him into Whatcom County Jail charged with suspicion of vehicular homicide.
Police say DUI may be a factor in the incident.
During this tragic time, we send our sincere sympathies to the bereaved family and friends of the victims.
