Pickup Truck Driver Dies after Crashing into Parked SUV on Atlantic Avenue in Long Beach
LONG BEACH, CA (February 2, 2020) – A 56-year-old Compton woman was killed in a traffic accident late Sunday afternoon in Long Beach.
The crash happened around 5:25 p.m. in the 6900 block of Atlantic Avenue.
According to Long Beach police, the woman was driving a 2006 GMC Sierra pickup truck south of Atlantic Avenue at a high rate of speed. As the road veered to the right, she lost control of the vehicle and struck a parked 2008 GMC Yukon.
The impact caused the pickup truck to overturn and the woman was ejected from the vehicle. Paramedics transported her to a local hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.
Preliminary investigations were unable to determine if the woman was wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash. There were no other occupants in the pickup truck.
The victim had a valid driver’s license and it is believed drugs and/or alcohol were a factor in the crash.
Police asked anyone with information regarding the crash to contact Detective S. Fox at 562-570-7355.
