Maria Moreno Dead after Placentia Fatal Freight Train Collision
PLACENTIA, CA (November 26, 2018) – A woman sustained fatal injuries when she was struck by a freight train on Thursday, November 22.
The woman was identified by the Placentia Police Department as Maria Moreno, 56, of Placentia.
Just before noon, Moreno was walking south in the middle of the 1700 block of Atwood Avenue, near Lincoln Street, when she was struck by the westbound BNSF train as she crossed the south track, a local news release stated. Moreno was discovered south of the tracks and north of Atwood.
According to Lt. James McElhinney in an interview, Moreno was headed home from a strip mall north of the tracks when she was struck. There was no evidence that she allowed the train to hit her, McElhinney stated. There is no suspected foul play, the release said.
