Early Morning Crash on Highway 178 in Bakersfield Kills Driver and Injures Passenger
BAKERSFIELD, CA (October 10, 2019) – A 55-year-old Bodfish woman was killed following a car accident early Thursday morning in the Kern River Canyon.
The crash happened around 1:40 a.m. on Highway 178, just west of Democrat Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a green Honda Civic was heading westbound on Highway 178. For unknown reasons, it veered over the eastbound lane and struck the side of the mountain. After hitting the rock wall, the car veered back to the right of the road and came to rest in a turnout.
As a result, the female driver died at the scene. Her passenger sustained minor injuries. Both occupants were not wearing seat belts.
Authorities did not release the identities of those involved. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
