Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Two Cars on 5 Freeway in Bellingham
BELLINGHAM, WA (December 10, 2019) – A 54-year-old Bellingham man was killed in a pedestrian crash on 5 Freeway late Tuesday evening, in Bellingham.
The fatal incident happened around 11:46 p.m., on northbound 5 Freeway at Iowa Street.
According to the Washington State Patrol, an unidentified man was walking in the lanes of traffic when two cars struck him.
A white 2012 Ford Fusion, driven by 31-year-old Marc L. Brendlinger of Lakewood, was traveling northbound in the right lane at the time and struck the man. While the man was lying in the roadway, a red 2004 Honda Accord, driven by 24-year-old Katie E. Hinkley of Bellingham, following the Fusion then reportedly hit the pedestrian.
As a result, the unidentified victim died at the scene.
Both drivers remained on scene and neither was impaired.
It was unknown why the man was walking in traffic lanes. Further investigation is underway.
