Redding Fatal Pedestrian Crash Under Investigation
Redding, CA (September 9, 2023) – On Friday, a 54-year-old male pedestrian from Redding sustained fatal injuries following a Highway 273 accident.
Officers from the Redding Police Department and emergency personnel responded to the crash scene at 6:16 a.m. in the area of Girvan Road.
When officers arrived, they located an unresponsive man suffering from major injuries.
Immediately, the rescuers rushed the man to Mercy Medical Center for treatment but died as a result of his injuries.
Investigators said the pedestrian was attempting to cross the freeway outside of a crosswalk.
At the same time, a Toyota 4 Runner being driven by a 25-year-old Anderson man was northbound on the highway in the left turn lane. Apparently, the driver observed a dark object in the lane of travel.
Police said Toyota 4 Runner driver tried to stop his vehicle but was unable to avoid the person in the travel lane and struck the pedestrian.
Meanwhile, officer said drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in this traffic accident.
Officers are still investigating this fatal crash.
