1 Injured in San Diego Accident on Interstate 5 and Palm Avenue
SAN DIEGO, CA (December 30, 2020) – Last December 21, a 52-year-old pedestrian suffered injuries in a crash on Interstate 5 and Palm Avenue.
According to San Diego police, they receive a request for help from Chula Vista at about 11:10 a.m. Officers were pursuing a stolen Hummer from a RoadOne impound yard.
However, the vehicle crashed into the Chevron gas station on Melrose and Orange Avenue.
The driver continued driving south on Interstate 5 and exited onto Palm Avenue. Then, he went into Apache Trailer Park, where an SDPD officer made a spike strip under the front wheels of the vehicle.
Then, the driver continued and struck a pedestrian in the trailer park while trying to escape. The authorities said, “it appears as though the collision with the pedestrian was intentional.”
As a result, the 52-year-old trailer park resident is in “very dire” condition at an area hospital.
Then, authorities arrested a 44-year-old man. Moreover, police K-9 also came to help. Meanwhile, they took the suspect to the hospital for minor injuries.
Due to the victim’s injuries, the San Diego Police Department’s homicide detectives handled the investigation.
