50-Year-Old Irma Pacheco Matias Dies in Highway 99 Collision [Bakersfield, CA]

Bakersfield, CA (November 20, 2024) – 50-year-old Irma Pacheco Matias was injured following a Highway 99 collision early Sunday morning.

It was around 1:07 a.m. when the fatal hit-and-run happened on the northbound highway, south of Houghton Road.

CHP said Matias and a 46-year-old man were walking across traffic lanes on the northbound highway.

At the same time, a grey Ford was traveling north on the same road in the number two lane toward the pedestrians. 

Matias and the other pedestrian walked into the lane directly into the path of the Ford and were hit by the vehicle.

Unfortunately, Irma Pacheco Matias was declared deceased at the crash scene while the man was transported to Kern Medical with severe injuries.

Meanwhile, the involved vehicle fled the crash scene before the authorities arrived.

CHP said it is unknown if alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision.
