Young Child Struck and Injured by Vehicle near Calle Cinco
MISSION HILLS, CA (June 18, 2018) – A child was hospitalized Monday afternoon following a pedestrian collision on Via Gala in the Missions Hills community. His name was not immediately released to the public.
The California Highway Patrol, the county Fire Department, and the Lompoc Fire Department arrived at the scene around 1:15 PM, at the 3600 block of Via Gala near Calle Cinco. They found a 5-year-old boy on the street with multiple moderate injuries.
A Santa Barbara County Rescue Ambulance transported the child to Los Berros Elementary School, where a Calstar helicopter was waiting to take him to the Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. Updates on the child’s condition were not immediately available.
The driver of the vehicle involved stayed at the scene to cooperate with the investigators. Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the accident. Authorities stated that this incident serves as a reminder that motorists should look out for children playing outside for the summertime.
