Nasim Ghanadan, Navid Hakimi, Lara Shepherd, Scott Shepherd, and Floria Hakimi Identified in Fatal Plane Accident near South Coast Plaza

SANTA ANA, CA (August 5, 2018) – Five people were killed in a small plane crash on Bristol Street, early Sunday afternoon. The deceased victims were identified by the Orange County coroner’s office on Monday morning as 29-year-old Nasim Ghanadan of Alamo, 32-year-old Navid Hakimi of Los Angeles, 42-year-old Lara Shepherd of Diablo, 53-year-old Scott Shepherd, and 62-year-old Floria Hakimi of Danville.

According to the Santa Ana Police Department, the collision took place around 12:30 PM on the 3800 block of Bristol Street, just north of South Coast Plaza. The plane crashed just blocks northwest from its destination, John Wayne Airport. No one on the ground was injured, but at least one unoccupied vehicle in the parking lot was struck, just a few feet from Staples.

Scott, the pilot of the 1973 twin-engine Cessna 414 aircraft, reported an emergency before falling nose first.

The plane was owned by Category III Aviation Corporation, and flown from the Bay area suburb of Concord. Lara, Hakimi, and Ghanadan were Realtors with Pacific Union International and were on the aircraft for work. There is currently no comment by the company.

Bristol was closed between Sunflower Avenue and Callen’s Commons, as crews cleaned up spilled fuel and officials conducted their investigation. No additional information has been released to the public as the National Transportation Safety Board, with assistance by the FAA, investigate the cause of the fatal incident.

Heartfelt condolences to the bereaved loved ones of Nasim Ghanadan, Navid Hakimi, Lara Shepherd, Scott Shepherd, and Floria Hakimi. May they rest in peace.
