Five Hospitalized after Suspected DUI Crash in Clallam County
SEIKU, WA (July 13, 2018) – Five people were injured in a speeding accident on Hoko-Ozette Road in Clallam County, late Friday night.
Clallam County Sheriff’s medics and deputies arrived at the scene after being alerted about a serious crash, just before 10:00 PM. First responders found a car in the ditch with serious damage and five occupants inside.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the car was headed northbound on Hoko-Ozette toward Highway 112 when the driver missed a curve, went off the roadway, and crashed into a tree stump. The impact caused the vehicle to spin into a nearby ditch.
The occupants of the car ranged in age from 16 to 21. Two occupants were found outside the vehicle and three others were trapped inside. The 19-year-old female driver was pinned between the seat and the steering wheel, and one person was unconscious.
After the three were pulled out of the car, all five occupants were rushed to Forks Hospital. The driver of the car was then flown to the Harborview Medical Center in Seattle because of the severity of her injuries. Another patient was taken to Port Angeles Olympic Medical Center.
Alcohol and excessive speed are considered to have been factors in the accident, and it is believed only one occupant was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision. No additional information has been disclosed, while officials continue their investigation.
