The incident took place on September 3 at about 2:45 p.m. on Interstate 15 in North County.
Medics transported at least five people who sustained non-life-threatening injuries from the crash, North County Fire Protection District spokesman Capt. John Choi said.
According to a report, the involved big rig was about to enter northbound Interstate 15 from eastbound state route 78. However, it flipped over and the chain-reaction crash followed.

Fire crews extricated the driver of the big rig from the vehicle and an occupant in the pickup.
Due to the impact of the collision, authorities closed three of four northbound Interstate 15 lanes until 5 p.m.
