5 Dead in Los Angeles Plane Accident on Catalina Island
LOS ANGELES, CA (October 10, 2024) – Tuesday night, 5 people died in a brutal airplane crash on Catalina Island.
Reports said that the incident involving a twin-engine Beechcraft 95 airplane occurred around 8:00 p.m. on Catalina Island.
The Federal Aviation Administration reported a plane crashed shortly after departing Catalina Airport in Avalon. Meanwhile, the Avalon Sheriff’s Station received a 911 SOS alert from a cellular device, indicating that the phone had been involved in a crash and that people were possibly injured. The alert included GPS coordinates to assist responders.
Moreover, the wreckage was discovered about a mile west of Catalina Airport, where five deceased adults were found. Records indicate the aircraft had departed from Santa Monica Airport earlier that day around 5:45 p.m.
The National Weather Service confirmed no dense fog advisories at the time. The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash. Due to the difficult terrain, the scene will remain secured until the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner and the Sheriff’s Department Emergency Services Detail arrive.
