2 Adults and 3 Children Hospitalized after Minivan Crashes near Anderson Road

NAPA COUNTY, CA (May 31, 2018) – On Thursday, three children and two adults were hospitalized after a single-vehicle crash on Highway 221.

The vehicle, a 2008 Chevrolet Uplander minivan, was driving northbound on Highway 221 just south of Anderson Road. For unknown reasons, the van went off the roadway, where it eventually crashed into a large eucalyptus stump in the center divider.

The five occupants, three young children and two adults, sustained moderate to major injuries and were rushed to different Bay Area hospitals after the incident. The two adults were taken to Queen of the Valley Medical Center, a 7-year-old passenger was transported to the UC Davis Medical Center, a 4-year-old to the Children’s Hospital Oakland, and a 2-year-old passenger to the Queen also.

Officials have not yet confirmed the exact reason why the vehicle veered off the roadway. It was found that there were no car seats inside the vehicle, as all three children should have been secured in one, according to police.

Southbound lanes were shut down and traffic was diverted to Napa Valley Corporate Way for about an hour after the crash. One northbound lane was also temporarily closed. No additional information is available to the public at this time.

To help keep everyone safe, the driver and passengers should all be secured in the vehicle before heading out on the road. Unfortunate road accidents can happen anytime, anywhere, and obeying the law or not can make all the difference in one’s survival. Drive defensively and pay attention to your surroundings when behind the wheel.
