Injuries Reported in South Lake Tahoe Auto Accident on Highway 89
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CA (December 25, 2024) – Monday morning, 5 people suffered injuries in a disastrous head-on crash on Highway 89.
The incident happened at 8:15 a.m. on Highway 89.
Meanwhile, authorities confirmed that unsafe speeds and icy conditions played a role in the crash.
A Chevrolet traveling north on Highway 89 lost control north of Picketts Junction, as reported by the CHP. Picketts Junction, located in Alpine County, is approximately 18 miles south of South Lake Tahoe. The vehicle swerved into the southbound lane and collided with a Mazda.
Two occupants of the Mazda, a 33-year-old woman and a 40-year-old man from Berkeley, were transported to Barton Memorial Hospital in South Lake Tahoe. The Chevrolet’s driver, a 49-year-old man from Huntington Beach, was also taken to Barton, according to the CHP.
At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.
