5 Hurt in National City Car Collision on 5 Freeway
NATIONAL CITY, CA (August 6, 2019) – Five people sustained injuries in a car collision on 5 Freeway on August 4.
The collision involving a minivan and a Nissan sedan left two mean and a woman stuck inside the sedan with a 4-year-old child. Rescuers removed the sedan’s roof to free the victims.
Officials from the San Diego and National City fire departments, along with the California Highway Patrol all came the scene.
According to a witness, the minivan’s male driver drove recklessly while entering the freeway from the Main Street onramp.
The driver then steered, sped up, halted then drove across lanes of traffic before colliding with the sedan.
Medical responders transported all the injured, including the minivan driver, to UC San Diego Medical Center. Meanwhile, the juvenile only suffered minor injuries.
The incident which occurred around 4:28 p.m. stalled the southbound traffic.
The CHP is currently investigating the collision.
