Five Hurt after San Diego Car Accident on 5 Freeway near Main Street
SAN DIEGO, CA (August 6, 2019) – Five people sustained injuries following a car accident on 5 Freeway on Sunday, August 4.
According to reports, a minivan crashed into a Nissan sedan in National City. Officials from the San Diego and National City fire departments responded to the crash. In addition, the California Highway Patrol also arrived.
The incident left two men and a woman trapped inside the sedan, together with a 4-year-old child. As a result, rescuers had to remove the sedan’s roof to extricate the victims.
A witness told a local news source that the male driver of the minivan drove carelessly as he entered the freeway from the Main Street on-ramp.
The witness stated that the driver swerved, sped up, stopped, and then crossed lanes of traffic before he struck the sedan.
Paramedics brought all the individuals, including the minivan driver, to UC San Diego Medical Center. However, the child sustained minor injuries.
Southbound traffic backed up after the 4:28 p.m. crash. The CHP is still investigating the incident.
